Immersive Cinema

40 minute interactive VR fable based on the book by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean. Players capture proof with photographs, search for clues with a magnifying glass, and defend Lucy’s pig puppet.

Audio Tech Used: Point source, ambisonic and stereo audio comes together in Unreal Engine

Winner: 2019 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Media and a 2022 Peabody Award in the Immersive & Interactive category. Premiered at the Sundance, Cannes and Tribeca Film Festivals Innovation in Interactive Media.

Monster

3D animated VR short. A monster, desperate to fit in among humans, hides behind a disguise but is forced to confront the truth about himself when a visit to an indoor pool leads to a dramatic unravelling of his identity.

Audio Tech Used: Atmos, 5.1, and ambisonic mixes were created for this film.

Role(s): I wore a LOT of hats on this one; Audio Director, composer, sound designer, voice director, foley, music mix and post mix.

Key moments I designed:
Just watch it! I touched every part of the audio as this was, mostly, a one-man show.

PEPITOS: The Beak Saga

360 Quill animated film. Pepitos is an immersive storybook native to VR that delves into the timeless themes of love and friendship, with a unique twist. The story follows Pepitos who is confronted with a difficult decision when two strangers arrive on his planet to claim his magical beak for themselves. Pepitos was an official selection of the 80th Venice Film Festival.

Audio Tech Used: Point source, ambisonic and stereo audio was implemented in Meta’s Quill animation software for a full immersive audio experience.

Role: I was the composer and was lucky enough to be able to record a small orchestra to help bring the music to life. The score was mixed in Atmos.

Key moments I composed:
I created the entirety of the score but my favorite cue can be found at 2:20 when I combined point-source, diegetic music with the surround score to enhance the storytelling in a way that only works in immersive experiences.

NightMara

Quill animated VR series. This horror-comedy series follows our hero, 11-year-old Mara, as she travels through other people’s nightmares in order to save them, and her city, from evil forces.

Audio Tech Used: Point source, ambisonic and stereo audio was implemented in Meta’s Quill animation software for a full immersive audio experience.

Role(s): Sound designer, mix supervisor, music editor.

Key moments I designed:
Ep 1: All sound design and foley of opening in (check out the cool spaceship tractor beam!)
Ep 1: All sound design of Mara falling through space in the title sequence
Ep 2: All sound design and foley in Mara’s running montage
Ep 2: Gravesite and Srgt. Libo flamethrower sequence near the end of the episode

Weird Times

Series

360 animated VR series. Weird Times is an honest and irreverent VR series that aims to shed light and understanding into the often misunderstood issues teens go through on a daily basis. Season 1 transports you into the first hand perspectives of modern teenagers dealing with topics such as Depression, Coming Out, ADHD, Culture Identity and Body Shame. 

Audio Tech: Point source, 2nd order ambisonic and stereo audio was spatialized and mixed using DearVR

Role(s): Audio Director, sound designer, composer, mixer, recordist, foley

Key moments I designed:
Ep 2: All sxf, foley and music in the final scene through the credits starting at 3:45
Ep 3: Audio director overseeing the tone and direction of all music and sound. I spatialized and mixed this episode. Pay special attention to how the party sounds seem as if they are really coming from the other side of the door. Additionally, audio is used to help draw the viewer to key on-screen action.

Campfire Creepers

Live action 3D, 360 VR. From master of horror Alexandre Aja, the director of films such as The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha, and Horns, and produced by Oculus and Future Lighthouse, Campfire Creepers invites viewers to join the fire circle at a summer camp called Camp Coyote as a group of kids take turns telling spooky tales.

Audio Tech: Point source, 2nd order ambisonic and stereo audio was spatialized and mixed using FB360

Interactive Experience

Take a trip into orbit and experience life on board the International Space Station!  In this Emmy-nominated simulation, learn how to move and work in zero-gravity using Touch controllers.  Dock a space capsule, take a spacewalk, and let real NASA astronauts guide you on the ISS through archival video clips. Created in collaboration with NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Canadian Space Agency, and based on NASA models as well as direct input and feedback from multiple astronauts and the NASA VR Lab in Houston, Mission: ISS recreates the International Space Station in painstaking detail.

Four fishy neighbors find their lives intertwined when intruders disrupt their peaceful evening. “Four Stories” is told from multiple vantage points and is designed to be experienced numerous times. Four different angles, four different stories. Which will you follow?
